Core Beliefs:

Major’s faculty and staff honor the following core beliefs: Maintain a growth mindset; align instruction to data and what  is best for scholars, joy in teaching students using culturally-responsive practices and learning effective instructional techniques, open communication and collaboration, respectful and reflective culture.

Major added two new core beliefs for the 2017-2018 school year: excuses free and sense of urgency. Major’s students honor five core beliefs of excellence in ascending order: Positive, Polite, Productive, Persistence, and most of all Powerful.

Ursula Gordon-Higginbotham

Ursula Gordon-Higginbotham has been named the new principal at Major Elementary School. Gordon-Higginbotham has served as the interim principal at Major since January, previously serving as the campus’ assistant principal for 2 years. An educational leader with over 28 years’ experience, she began her career as a special education teacher and department chair in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System before working various positions in Fort Bend ISD, Pearland ISD, Pasadena ISD and Houston Community College (Southwest and Katy campuses) before joining Major Elementary School in 2022. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Southern University A&M. She furthered her education in the field of Psychology at the University of Houston – Clear Lake.

The Spring Independent School District serves over 34,000 prekindergarten through 12th-grade students in a diverse district located 20 miles north of central Houston. From high-quality early childhood programs to college preparation courses and career pathway exploration, there are programs and services designed to meet the needs of every Spring ISD student.
