The Early Explorers Academy

Spring ISD is launching a new PK 3 program for students turning 3 by September 1. Starting on a small scale, this full-day program is available to all families across the district at select campuses.

The Early Explorers Academy 

Spring ISD is excited to announce that we will be piloting a new PK 3 program, The Early Explorers Academy, for English and Spanish-speaking students who will be 3 years old on or before September 1. Beginning in August for the 2025-26 school year, we will be starting the PK 3 program on a small scale, gathering feedback from leaders, teachers and parents, and making the necessary adjustments to improve its effectiveness.

The Early Explorers Academy is a full-day program and is open to any and all families across the district at these campuses:

  • Bammel
  • Link (English only)
  • Lewis (Dual-Language only)
  • Major
  • McNabb
  • Winship (English only)

Bell Schedule / Hours:

PK 3, The Early Explorers Academy, will follow the elementary school bell schedule:

  1. 8:05 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. for the 2025-26 school year

Please be aware that there are a limited number of openings available for Pre-K 3. Admission to the PK 3 - Early Explorers Academy is subject to approval and acceptance of the application by the campus administration.

No, in order to qualify, your child must be 4 on or before September 1 of the current school year.

The following documents are considered acceptable.

  • Original Birth certificate
  • Statement of the child’s date of birth issued by the division of the Texas Department of State Health Services responsible for vital statistics for school admission purposes
  • Passport
  • School ID card, records, Report card
  • Military ID
  • Hospital Birth record
  • Adoption records
  • Church Baptismal record
  • Lease agreement
  • Mortgage statement
  • Current gas, light, or water bill

If your zoned school is full, parents may apply for a transfer to any Spring ISD campus on a space-available transfer. In the case of an approved transfer, transportation will not be provided.

Out-of-district students may enroll in Spring ISD Pre-K programs as determined by available space. In the case of an approved out-of-district transfer, transportation will not be provided.

Yes, if your student is going to their zoned campus. However, if your child is attending a school that is not their zoned campus, then parents/guardians will need to provide transportation.

Yes the student can attend, however, the district has established written guidelines for managing these situations in the Self-Care Parent Agreement. Parents should understand that school personnel cannot physically assist with toileting.

If your zoned school is full, parents may apply for a transfer to any Spring ISD campus on a space-available transfer. In the case of an approved transfer, transportation will not be provided.

Your child must meet at least one of the following:

  • The child is unable to speak and comprehend the English language; or
  • The child is educationally disadvantaged (which means a student eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program; or
  • The child is homeless, as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 1143a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child’s guardian or other person having lawful control of the child; or
  • The child is a child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority; or
  • The child is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; or
  • The child is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code; or
  • The child is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as: a peace officer under Section 3106.002 Government Code; a firefighter under Section 3106.003, Government Code; or an emergency medical first responder under Section 3106.004, Government Code.

Yes! Starting the 2021-22 school year, Spring ISD expanded the program to include a tuition-free option for students who wouldn’t normally be eligible because they don’t meet the usual income, language or other requirements. The only eligibility requirement is that a student must be 4 years old on or before September 1. This expansion ensures more young learners get the great start that a quality pre-K education provides without their families having to pay any tuition or fees.

  • A current paycheck stub
  • Letter from employer stating gross wages paid and how often they are paid
  • Unemployment, worker’s compensation or Disability payment stub
  • Last year’s tax return

No, prekindergarten is not mandatory. However, upon enrollment in prekindergarten, a child must attend school. All students are subject to compulsory school attendance rules while they are enrolled in school.

 

Yes, a household may submit a complete application that contains the name of the child, a current SNAP or TANF group number and an adult signature. Lone Star Card account numbers are not acceptable SNAP case numbers on the application.

PK3 Full for 2025-26

Our PK3 program for the 2025–2026 school year is currently full. Families who are still interested in applying to have their child are welcome to complete an application. All submitted applications will automatically be placed on our waitlist, and we will contact families if a space becomes available.

Parents must sign an acceptance letter informing them of the attendance policy and other requirements for PK.

Students do not need to be potty trained, however, all parents must sign the Self-Care Parent Agreement and understand that school personnel cannot physically assist with toileting.

No, the district will not provide three-year olds with transportation regardless of being zoned to a participating campus.
