Northgate Crossing Elementary

Northgate Crossing Elementary School is a B-rated campusThe elementary school is named for the Northgate Crossing neighborhood, which is located in the on the northernmost edge of the Spring ISD boundary near I-45 and Hardy Toll Road. The school opened in 2008.

Mr. Whitten brings more than 15 years of experience in instructional leadership, campus improvement, and educator development. Most recently, he served as a principal apprentice with Houston ISD, where he partnered with campus leaders to strengthen instructional practices, coach principals, and support strategic planning, budgeting, staffing, and school improvement efforts across multiple campuses.

Previously, Mr. Whitten served as principal of Mark White Elementary School in Houston ISD, where he led the campus to improve its Texas Education Agency accountability rating from a “C” to a “B” in one year while increasing student achievement, school progress and ‘Closing the Gaps’ performance. Under his leadership, the campus earned multiple distinctions, expanded multilingual programming, strengthened family engagement, and implemented data-driven instructional systems that accelerated student success.

Prior to serving as principal, Mr. Whitten held campus leadership roles as assistant principal and dean of academics, where he developed teacher capacity through instructional coaching, professional learning, and collaborative data cycles. His leadership has consistently focused on building strong school cultures, improving instructional quality, and ensuring every student has the support needed to succeed.

As principal of Northgate Crossing Elementary School, Mr. Whitten will lead the campus with a focus on academic excellence, student-centered leadership, and strong partnerships with families, staff and the community.

Mr. Whitten holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Lamar University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington.
