With 28 years in education, including entering her second year in Spring ISD, she brings a record of turning vision into measurable student success. Her readiness for this high-school post is underscored by her three years at North Forest High School in Houston ISD. Taking the campus from Improvement Required status to meeting state standards within a single year, she sustained that growth for the remainder of her tenure. The turnaround rested on two priorities: sharpening daily instructional practices and deliberately building the capacity of assistant principals, instructional coaches, and teachers so that excellence could endure even after her departure. Before joining Spring ISD, Dr. Smith also served Houston ISD as Curriculum Director, Officer of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, Dean of Instruction, and principal at the elementary, middle, and high-school levels. Her leadership at Thomas Middle School earned four state academic distinctions in 2017, mathematics, social studies, student progress, and postsecondary readiness, and Houston ISD named her its 2020-2021 Achieve 180 Principal of the Year while she led North Forest High School. A proud U.S. Army veteran, Dr. Smith holds a Ph.D. from Grand Canyon University, a Master of Education in Mid-Management from Prairie View A&M University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Dillard University. She looks forward to partnering with Dekaney students, staff, and families to expand college, career, and military-ready pathways and to foster a culture where every Wildcat feels valued, challenged, and prepared for the future. 2 FacebookTwitterPinterestEmail Rony Canales previous post Cooper Elementary School next post Dueitt Middle School
